What We Believe

SEEKING

Seeking after God does not happen all at once. We invite you to come and seek after God at Bethany. Below are beliefs that are vital to our church and even if you are not ready to believe, come and explore faith, God, Jesus and life here at Bethany with us.

GOD

There is one true Holy God who is Creator of the world, and who now personally and powerfully is involved in the day-to-day life of each person. God’s love, power, wisdom, goodness, mercy, and grace continue to sustain all of creation.

JESUS CHRIST

Nobody lived life better than Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God, was born to the Virgin Mary, lived a life full of perfect obedience to God, voluntarily gave up His life on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day. Jesus’ resurrection has given new life to people throughout the centuries and it continues to today.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ and also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wisdom.

THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s Word, written by human authors, telling God’s story and giving the best wisdom and instructions for living. We hold the scriptures as the unique, full and final word on all matters of faith and practice.

NEW LIFE

New life is a gift from God to all people. We can never make up for their sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can a person be saved from sin. When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue performing it until the day of its full completion.

THE CHURCH

The Church is more than a place. It is the gathering of all people who put their trust in Jesus Christ. Considerations of class or race, education or pedigree, wealth or prestige do not enter in.

GOING DEEPER

We are part of the Evangelical Covenant denomination. As a denomination, we have six affirmations. Click here for more info: Covenant Affirmations.

The Evangelical Covenant Church

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination of more than 850 churches in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish Immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the Word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
