Worship and Music

The choir sings praises...

  Sunday Worship Services

...at 9:00am (Traditional Blend with organ and choir).
and 10:30am (Contemporary Blend with praise band)

There are two regular Sunday morning services at Bethany; the 9am service is a “traditional blend” ofGeorge Lopez plays a postlude. favorite hymns, songs and prayers, led by a robed choir and accompanied by organ or piano. The service at 10.30am features less formal songs and prayers, and is led by a praise band. A talk for children, an open prayer time and lively music are popular elements in our “contemporary blend”, but we are always happy to use traditional items that add depth and richness to our worship.

On Sunday mornings, our thoughts usually center on an appropriate theme or season in the church’s year. Communion is celebrated at least once each month, and all who know and love the Lord are welcome to participate.

Discussion and Sunday School groups also meet at the same times.

In the summer we switch to one service at 9:30am.  Check the home page in late spring for dates.

Core Values of Worship at Bethany Covenant

When we worship, we celebrate God’s initiative in creating us, sustaining us and reconciling us to himself. We delight and trust in His saving grace in Jesus Christ. God's Word is central to our lives; we worship through expressions rooted in our common history and our response to God’s self-revelation using the language and metaphors of our culture. In our worship God draws us closer to Himself and one another and the Holy Spirit forms us into a community of Christ followers.

Our worship… tells a story
We rehearse the story of God our Creator and Redeemer; celebrate the exemplary life, sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Christ, and we see our own story as part of His story (Acts 2.22-24).

Our worship… relates to our everyday lives
As followers of Christ, we minister to God and to one another using human language, arts and culture, empowered and inspired by the Holy Spirit (Col 3.12-17). Following the example of scripture, our vocabulary of worship is broad and expresses a wide variety of emotions and attitudes.

Our worship… brings us together
United by the Spirit, we celebrate together and encourage one another to deepen the relationship with God, for which we were made and into which we are redeemed. We are committed to obeying the Great Commandments (Matt 22.37-40) and fulfilling the Great Commission (Matt 28.19-20). Associate Pastor J.T. interviews Ministry Team members...

Our worship… changes lives
As we draw near to God (James 4.8), not trusting to our own righteousness but invited as a privilege granted by Christ, (Hebrews 10.19-25) God is present in our company. The Holy Spirit illuminates the Word and inspires our celebration of His kingdom; and by His grace God will open our hearts and minds to a clearer view of Himself.

Our worship… makes us better followers
We respond to Christ’s invitation to follow Him (Luke 6.26-27). As we follow, we also seek to lead those who are younger in faith and life to take His example and ours. (1 Cor 4.16-17; 11.1)

Worship and Music Ministry at Bethany is organized using a team approach.
There are teams that work on technical issues, sound and audio/visual equipment, setting up for communion, decorating the Sanctuary and so on. There is a Contemporary Service Praise Team (rehearsing on Wednesday evenings at 8pm) and a Choir (which also practices every Wednesday at 7pm) as well as several other groups (Handbells, Jazz Band and various childrens’ ensembles and choirs).

If you’re interested in Getting involved, just contact Terry or Bev at the office. We’ll introduce you to the leader of the group you’re interested in, and make sure that you can make the most of your God-given talents.
